2008 PHC Event
Over 800 hundred local homeless people were served at three simultaneous Project Homeless Connect events in Hanford, Porterville and Visalia at the 1st Annual Project Homeless Connect event which was held on October 30, 2008. The events took place from 7 am to 3 pm and offered free services such as meals, medical and dental care, DMV ID cards, birth certificates, haircuts and pet care to this vastly underserved population.
The Department of Motor Vehicles was on hand at all three locations and processed approximately 175 California ID cards. Sprint offered free unlimited phone calls anywhere in the US and Google provided 100 free lifetime voice mail accounts. Even homeless pets weren’t forgotten at the event. Clients could check their pets in for free pet sitting while visiting the booths. Homeless pets were given free vaccinations, food, and other pet supplies.
